J&K STATE SYMBOLS

State Animal: The Hangul or Kashmir Stag

The Hangul or Kashmir Stag (Cervus Elaphus Banglu) is the only surviving race of the red deer family in the Indian Sub-continent. Dachigam is home to the last viable population of Hangul in the world.

State Bird: The Black-Necked Crane

The Black-Necked Crane (Grus Nigricollis) is the official State Board of Jammu and Kashmir. It is one of the worlds most endangered Cranes. The Tsomorari lake in Ladakh is the only breeding ground for the Black-Necked Crane outside China.

State Tree: The Chinar 

The Chinar tree (Platanus orientalis) is the official State Tree of the Jammu and Kashmir and called Booune in the Kashmir language. The Chinar tree is an integral part of Kashmiri culture almost every village in the valley has a Chinar tree.

State Flower: The Lotus

The Lotus (Nelumbo Nucifera) is the official State Flower of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a sacred flower and occupies a unique position in the art and mythology of Ancient Indian has been an auspicious symbol of Indian culture since time immemorial.

State Flag

The Jammu and Kashmir is the only state that has its own flag designed by the Government of India. The flag of Jammu and Kashmir is the native plough on a red background, which is a symbol of labour. The three stripes represent the three administrative divisions of the state, namely Jammu, Valley of Kashmir and the Ladakh.

State Emblem

State Eblem of Jammu and Kashmir remind various things. The strips represent the cultural regions of the state Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The ploughs and the two ears of corns represent the majority of the state population. The lotus in the centre stands for purity and knowledge.
