Keeping yourself abreast with the latest happenings is not only important for enhancing our awareness but it also plays a pivotal role in any Competitive Exams, be it IAS, KAS, Bank PO, SSC and any other. It is a scoring subject and one can easily get above 90% in this which can be a game changer. But, to do so it requires incessant serious efforts.   • Today is World Blood Donor Day. This day is celebrated to spread awareness about the need for safe and secure blood supplies and also to provide an opportunity to draw public attention to the importance of blood donation for saving lives.
  • Theme for this year is: "Blood connects us all" 

  • ''Child Labour Tracking System' (CLTS) has been inaugurated by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in order to keep a track of rescued child labour to be given from Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
  • The Union Ministry of Railways has launched three passenger service initiatives namely - a Janani Sewa for Mothers, optional catering in Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains on a pilot basis and a children's menu on trains. Under this scheme hot milk, hot water and baby food will be available at railway stations. Initially on a pilot basis this scheme will be available at 25 railway stations including New Delhi, Howrah, Mumbai, Chennai, Surat and Lucknow.

  • Bharti Infratel will buy back 47 million shares for Rs 425 each in a deal valued at Rs 2,000 Cr, in a bid to return surplus funds back to shareholders, a regulatory filing by the company said on Tuesday. 

  • Former international Bona Thomas John has been nominated by Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) as the coach of the Men's team which will take part in Japan open to be played in Tokyo (June 15 to 19) and in the Korean open at Incheon (June 22 to 26). 
  • This is the first major international assignment for Bona who is employed with Indian Railways.

  • Foreign Ministers from China and Southeast Asian nations are meeting amid Beijing's efforts to alleviate concerns about its assertions of sovereignty over the South Chin Sea. The meeting being held in the South-western Chinese city of Yuxi.

  • Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) has acquired the broadcast and digital rights for the third Indian open World-ranking snooker tournament, to be held in Hyderabad from July 4 to 9.

  • India recorded a 10-year low in investments in public-private sector in the year 2015, adding to contraction that pulled down the global investment to below its five-year average of $124.1 billion, the World Bank said. 

  • Scientists, using NASA's Kepler space technology, have discovered a Jupiter-like planet orbiting a system of two stars, making it the largest such cosmic body ever found. The planet Kepler 16476, located in the constellation Cygnus, was discovered by astronomers from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Centre and San Diego State University (SDSU) in the US. 

  • With the birth of a baby girl in Nagpur, India has reportedly recorded in first ever case of a baby born with a rare genetic disorder called 'Harlequin Ichthyosis'.
