  • India will soon open its Sixth consulate in Seattle to cater to the needs of large number of India-Americans living in the northwestern part of  the U.S.
  • Mr. Modi and Mr. Obama announced that the United States and India will be Travel and Tourism partner countries for 2017, and committed to facilitate visas for each others nationals. 
  • The Delhi government has approved the  first solar policy which aims at making the capital an environment-friendly solar city.
  • Lucknow will host the Junior Men’s hockey World Cup from the 8th of December this year according to International Hockey Federation.
  • India came closer to the first of four nuclear regimes it is trying to gain entry into, with countries belonging to the 34-member Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) raising no objection to India’s membership later this year.  
  • Admission to the MTCR would open the way for India to buy high-end missile technology also making more realistic its aspiration to buy state-of-the-art surveillance drones such as the US President.
  • The Hindu’s former Delhi Chief of Bureau and Veteran Journalist K.K Katyal passed away in a Delhi hospital on Wednesday after a brief illness. Mr. Katyla was 88.

  • TI Cycles of India, a part of the Murugappa Group, has set up Green field project in Punjab on Wednesday. The state-of-the-art bicycle manufacturing factory has come up at Rajpura with a total investment of Rs 105 crore.
  • In its Global Economic Prospects Report released, the Washington-based institution expected the World Economy to Grow 2.4 per cent in 2016, 0.5 percentage point lower than the bank’s forecast in January.
  • Russian female weightlifters Marina Shainova and Nazezhda Eustyukhina, who are the 2008 Olympics silver and bronze medalists respectively, tested positive for doping substances.
  • With India trying to boost in relations with African countries, President Pranab Mukherjee will embark on a six-day visit to Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Namibia from June 12.
  • This will be first ever visit of the President to Cote d’Ivoire after both countries established diplomatic relations, while it will be the first at the highest level in over two decades to Namibia.
  • Independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rasheed was today Marshalled after he disrupted the proceedings in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly demanding a statement from the government over the arrest of Syed Shabir Ahmad Shah, a Muslim leader in Jammu.

UNO (UNITED NATIONS ORGANISATION) 

  • The charter of the UN was signed at San Francisco on June 26, 1945
  • The name United Nations was given: US President Roosevelt.

  • First regular session was held in London in Jan, 1946 & Trygve Le (Norway) was elected the first Secretary General.
